CSA Volunteers for Local Race Benefiting the San Dieguito County Park in California
February 28, 2012 – San Diego — At 5:30 a.m. on Sunday Feb. 12, a group of CSA volunteers were anxiously peering out their car windows hoping their windshield wipers reamed in the off-position. With their GPSs set to San Dieguito County Park, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., they were en route to assist in race-day operations for the 44th Annual Classic San Dieguito Half-Marathon and 5K.
Kathy Loper Events, known for their international excursions and San Diego races, and Hash House Harriers, a local running network, hosted the 44th Annual San Dieguito Half Marathon and 5K, benefiting the San Diego County Parks Society. The San Dieguito Half Marathon is a staple of the San Diego Race Circuit and according to kathyloperevents.com, it is one of the most beautiful and scenic courses you'll ever run.
This is the second consecutive year CSA employees volunteered a Sunday morning to help with this race. “We do this to show our appreciation and support to Kathy Loper Events for sponsoring our CSA Adventure Challenges,” said Deborah Wittich, the coordinator to CSAs race volunteer involvement. “It is great to give back to the community and even more exciting when we see entire families coming out to volunteer, like the Dave Stambaugh clan.”
With the half marathon attracting over 1,200 runners, CSA supplied 24 volunteers; nine CSA employees and 15 friends and family to keep runners on course (course marshals) and make sure racers were hydrated (water stations) throughout their 13.1 mile trek. Due to CSAs commitment and involvement, Kathy Loper Events race water station coordinator, John Graf, said out of his 18 years of service this was the smoothest race to date.
“Special thanks needs to go to Debbie Wittich for getting all of the CSAers out to volunteer,” said Senior Consultant Brian Keller. “We would all be a little lazier without Debbie.”
